Random facts MEME
The Grad Girl and Krystal tagged me on the 8 MEME things going on in the blogging community.
So here are 8 (a very auspicious and great number) random facts about me:
1. I was a member of the Alone, Together (The Strokes) fanclub. How fangirl of me! It was only $20. But I wanted all the perks of being a member - the quarterly newsletter which I still keep, the goodies such as the postcards and posters, exclusive emails and videos and the best part - Strokes shoelaces! I was addicted listening to and obsessing about The Strokes which started in 2003. They're the garage/indie/rock band from NYC famous for their always drunk but charming lead singer Julian Casablancas (if only he wasn't married!). I loved the band so much I flew all the way to NYC in 2004 to see their last show in Central Park. My friends and I waited the entire day in the rain and it was the best Strokes show. Why? Julian in his drunken state announced he was getting married on stage before launching into my favorite song "Hard to explain." The lines go "I missed the last bus, I take the next train, I try but you see it's hard to explain." While in NYC we walked around the LES to find Wiz Kid Management (their management company) and to see if we could find any of the members. Later we saw Nikolai riding his bike but it was too late to flag him down. I also had a minor obsession with Interpol (the band) not the police. Ha.
2. I love to eat white rice. It's not healthy and I'm supposed to incorporate whole grains but white rice is so satisfying. My mom used to cook it with some sausage and that would be dinner. I loved it with some chili sauce also.
3. I like to ask alot of questions. I'm naturally curious - sometimes it's a good thing but sometimes I need to turn off the brain especially with old friends - there's just so much to catch up on. But because I like asking questions because you learn so much about people (that's why I was drawn to journalism). Random strangers feel comfortable telling me their life story and I enjoy listening. It's always the best part of my day when I meet someone new and I ask a simple question which leads them to tell a long story.
4. My stuffed animal collection is huge. The top shelf of my closet at home is devoted to stuffed animals. It's like a shrine. I'm such a kid. My mom made me donate some a few years ago and I gave only the small ones and semi-ugly ones. I'm more generous with donating my stuffed toys because my mom said the space could be better used. I've got all kinds of teddy bears, frogs, bunny rabbits, mushroom toys, monkeys - you name it I have it. I've got a stuffed Tigger, Pooh and a dinosaur from the Flinstones.
5. Scarves are my favorite accessory. My favorite scarf is a dark pink. I like to drape them around my neck to stay warm. The city gets cold. My sister while in NY bought 8 pashminas, 4 of which I'll get in bright colors.
6. Central Oregon is a very special place for me. It was the first area I drove all the way from California to for my internship. I met one of my best friends there and we still keep in touch regularly after all these years. And it was the best three months I spent there.
7. Rabbits are my favorite pets. But I think I killed my pet rabbit - not on purpose. I don't know what happened. My vet said she was getting fat eating so many pellets and to have her eat more vegetables and grass. So that's what I did. One afternoon I got a call from my little sister saying the rabbit wasn't moving much or eating her food. I panicked and got on the first bus home. By that time it was too late. We wrapped her in a blanket, took her to the pet and she died. I cried because we named her Marble and as a kid we had a white rabbit who ran away. I saw one a few weeks ago at a street fair - a man holding a white one and it was so pretty. I wanted to scoop it into my arms and hold it forever.
8. Music festivals, particularly the ones out-of-state/country are the ones I dream of attending before I'm 30 (not a realistic goal). Glastonbury, The V Festival (UK), Reading, Leeds, Bonaroo, Bumbershoot, V Festival (Canada) - the experience of being among the crowds in awful weather conditions and watching your favorite band play is incredible. After SXSW I just got the music festival bug and would love to go to them all just for the experience.
I'm so long-winded. But I'd love to know more about Saving Diva, Addy, Olga and GoldnSilver.

I love your number one! I've never gone down the fanclub way...but I will admit that I found your story fascinating!
I really like the way you wrote little paragraphs for each idea. Creative!
And, BTW, if we were real-life friends, I'd absolutely be knitting you another scarf for that collection. :)Do you knit? Yarn is the next best thrill to scarfs!
