Crossing my fingers

After the phone interview that almost didn't happen (the HR person didn't call me during the scheduled time and I waited about 15 minutes before calling worried I might have seemed too "desperate.") The calendar appointment didn't pop up on her email so it worked out.

I was worried I wouldn't meet the qualifications of the job description because they wanted 1-3 years of experience directly doing some of the work. During our conversation the recruiter clarified and said they were looking for someone with a general overview and understanding. They'd train the right candidate who would be working on a specific product/brand.

So I'll know by early next week if I'm offered an on-site interview. The resume gets passed to the director of the department who I actually met a few months ago for coffee. So I'm hoping she might recognize my resume, work and remember my enthusiasm.

I checked the map again and I'd be able to shave 5 minutes from my daily walk to work. That's one less huge block to trek in the mornings. It's closer than I thought which is perfect.

My friends are rooting for me including a really nice woman I met a few months ago for an informational interview at her company. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a miracle. The position is definitely challenging and will allow me to better understand the world of international business. And it sounds like fun, which should be a major component of any job.

What really helped alleviate my anxiety during the interview was asking if they had any reservations about my qualifications, background or skills. She didn't have any and said a year and a half sounds like a good starting point.

As long as the salary is somewhere in the 40s range, I'd be more than thrilled.

I hope this works out! Do you have a feel for how they will react to your vacation plans in China?

Karen: If the person I'm reporting to is the same person I met for coffee a few months ago I have a feeling she should be OK with my plans. That's something I keep crossing my fingers will work out. She seemed to like the idea of being a global traveler.
